Cats at OSU

Yes, there are other cat projects and we are slowing updating this site. The links at the end will bring up other work on cats being performed at OSU.

Protocol 97A0204 - Effects of Feline Immunodefiency Virus on Basal Ganglia Structure and Function.
Approved in December of 1997 this experiment was funded by a University Seed Grant. The investigator is Philip A. March, DVM,MS.

A total of 31 cats will be used in this study. 7 pregnant queens beyond 40 days of gestation will serve as the source of the 24 neonatal kittens. 12 kittens will be infected at 3 days of age (with FIV) and serve as the experimental group. The remaining 12 will serve as control.

We found one paragraph discussing administration of D-amphetamine at 4 and 6 months and administration of haloperidol at 3 and 5 months. This protocol states the cats will be given a 0.5 mg/kg dosage of amphetamine or 0.5 mg/kg of haloperidol subcutaneously (under the skin).

Update: It does not appear that this work has continued. Our update investigation has revealed that March worked with Podell during some of the initial cats on meth studies. He has published some recent work concerning cats anesthetized with isoflurane.
Recent open protocols indicate he now is using dogs and reviewing anesthesia procedures. (8/31/04)
