USDA Class A dealers sell purpose-bred dogs. Marshall Farms in New York is one facility where OSU buys dogs.

Robert Perry, Mt. Sterling, is a USDA Class B dealer, who primarily buys dogs from individuals around Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia as well as breeds dogs.

Seth Perry, son of Robert Perry, had this commentary published in the Chronicle of Higher Education.LIVES IN THE BALANCE
The ethical quandaries of using animals in research are a little less abstract when providing those animals is the family business, writes Seth Perry, a Ph.D. student in the history of Christianity at the University of Chicago Divinity School.

We have been asked to remove the article from our website by the Chronicle with this comment, "As a subscription-based publication, we do not permit Chronicle-owned material to be electronically reproduced, distributed, or posted on other web sites." http://chronicle.com/weekly/v53/i21/21b01401.htm

Our response to the article is Not Really

Dogs obtained from Robert Perry are used in atleast eleven (11) protocols and the number of dogs used could reach eight hundred thirty (830).

Other facilities providing dogs to OSU include:

Springborn Labs, a subsidy of Charles River located in Spencerville, Ohio. After our 2003 protest at Springborn the company removed their website from public view.

WIL Research Laboratories, located in Ashland, Ohio has been delivering beagles to OSU for a number of years.

Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, provides beagles for a variety of experiments at OSU.

Some research projects are funded by the Ohio Canine Research Fund. The monies come from every county in Ohio via the sale of dog licenses. Ten cents (.10) of every dog license sold in the state goes to this fund.

Protocol titles highlighted have received dogs. At this time POET is receiving Animal Disposition records after the dogs are killed not when they arrive at OSU as in previous years.
